Sweatshirt Style

Does anyone else struggle with casual style? One of my biggest challenges at the weekend is finding something to throw on to run errands that isn’t leggings and sneakers. I spend my time at work or working out or around my apartment and once in a while I have the realization that I only have work clothes or gym clothes. I recently found my newest obsession and solution to my casual weekend outfit problems: the sweatshirt.

OK not just any sweatshirt, but cute sweatshirts with a little something extra. One of my favorite finds in forever has to be this Oui Non sweatshirt from J. Crew. Sadly it sold out pretty much immediately, but there are lots of other cute ones like these New York or Brooklyn options. I wear my sweatshirt with jeans and sneakers mainly. I will admit I’m kind of lazy and never want to deal with tying my sneakers so I usually just slip on a pair of flats which also look chic with this casual look.

As much as I love a cozy sweater, I sometimes get sick of wearing them non-stop in Winter. It can be easy to get in a routine of wearing the same five sweaters over and over when you live somewhere the air hurts your face for months at a time. I’m excited to mix up my style with some sweatshirts that are equally as warm, but a good mix to my boring sweater routine.

I also love adding in playful printed sweatshirts. I ALWAYS buy grey or cream sweaters for Winter and even I’m getting a little bored with all solid colors. One of my goals for this year is to mix more color and playful prints into my wardrobe. I mean I know this sweatshirt is just a nude sweatshirt, but let’s say I’m easing into the print and color thing OK?

I also think it’s important to bring up the need to try on nude colored tops. I definitely never would have thought this would look cute on me, but I ordered it anyway just to see. I’m super pale, I mean we’re talking Laura Mercier barely makes a shade that’s light enough for me. So nude is definitely not a color I ever gravitate towards. But when I put this on it just totally worked and didn’t wash me out. My photographer/friend Rachel even mentioned how she totally overlooked this sweatshirt because she didn’t think the nude would work. It’s totally reminded me the need to just try different things and see what works. No more sticking to the comfort zone!

Has anyone else gotten on board the sweatshirt train?
