I have to be honest here and say I think the high waist/mom jeans are never going out of style for me. I know there are mixed feelings on them; you either love them or hate them. I am firmly in the love category. They’re comfortable and they keep their shape all day if you (like me) don’t have a butt. I just don’t know how I ever even wore jeans before them.

While summer is usually my least favorite time to wear jeans, I found the best pair of high waist denim for hot weather. I knew I had found THE pair when they were called the “perfect summer jean“. I mean A+ on advertising because they live up to the name. They are super lightweight and so comfy. A problem I’ve encountered with other high waist jeans is the crotch. Every pair of Levi’s I own do this weird bunching of fabric thing at the crotch, like maybe there’s too much fabric there. Has anyone else noticed this? Another issue with 100% cotton denim is that you usually have to order a size or two up because there isn’t any stretch. I loved this pair so much because they were pretty thin denim, so no weird bunching of extra fabric. And they run pretty true to size and do have some give to them. I did order a size up from my usual at Madewell, but I’ve been noticing lately that their sizes seem to be running smaller than normal on denim. So either order your regular size or go up just one.

You know I love a good bodysuit (see here) so it’s a no brainer that bodysuits and high waist denim have become my go-to for everything from brunch to date nights. I have a hard time finding good bodysuits because I have a long torso. So they don’t always fit perfectly. I love this black one from Free People that I bought last fall and want in like 10 colors. I’ve found that Free People is one of the best brands for bodysuits if you have a long torso. They also have the best options that you don’t need to wear a bra with. Most of them have built in support so that makes summer styling even easier.

For a casual day look like brunch or shopping, I just stick with leather sandals and a straw bag. My circle straw bag from Clare V is one of my favorite purchases ever. It was kind of a splurge for a VERY seasonal bag, but every year I would find myself wanting a new straw bag and hating it by the end of summer or next year. I knew I wanted this one and finally went for it. It is the best straw bag I’ve ever owned because it doesn’t rub on your clothes and it doesn’t pull color off denim. I can’t tell you how many cotton sundresses I’ve ruined with a cheap straw bag rubbing my hip. If you’re on the fence about investing a straw bag, this one in particular, just go for it. You will not regret it. And if you don’t love a big straw bag, try the smaller option. My exact one sells out really quickly, so it’s worth signing up to get on the waitlist for it. You can still get the same bag in different colors at a few other places. I love this pink version.

For a nighttime look I throw on some statement earrings and some heels with a cute clutch. Or maybe I take my Kate Spade crab purse out for the night. I like to let guys know right off the bat that I love kitsch because why hide it. Which maybe this is why there are no second dates. But don’t date boys who don’t love your crab purse ok.

The moral of the story is you can still wear jeans in summer and you can wear a bodysuit with literally everything. I rounded up a few of my favorite pairs of high waist denim as well as some bodysuits I’m loving below.
