Sardella and Sweaters

After an entire week off we’re back! Things were pretty quiet around here last week because I gave myself the first week of the year off. I spent some time planning for the year and setting some goals for myself. It was a much needed break and I am so excited for the year ahead.

Another benefit of taking some time off was getting to spend lots of time with family and friends. Over Christmas I was in Illinois at my parents’ home and came back to the city to head back to work. I did manage to snag a day off to spend some time with friend Mina who was in town from Chicago. She writes the blog Chicago Food Girl and has one of the most #foodporn worthy Instagram accounts (@chicagofoodgirl).

I knew when Mina told me she was going to be in town we had to go to Sardella, Gerard Craft’s new restaurant in Clayton. I love all of Gerard’s restaurants, Pastaria is my favorite pasta and pizza around and Brasserie has literally the best burger in St. Louis. I’ve been really excited to try Sardella and their amazing looking coffees.

We popped in for a late lunch and coffees to escape the cold weather. For breakfast and lunch, it’s fairly casual; just waltz up to the bar and grab a menu to place your order. At dinner, you can make reservations or walk in and the menu is a little more sophisticated. The lunch menu had lots of sandwiches and salads to choose from and all of them sounded delicious.

We started off with a matcha latte and a mocha latte, which is definitely a selling point with their house made chocolate sauce. For lunch, Mina got the pork belly and prosciutto sandwich with fontina and pickled veggies while I went with the pork shoulder piadina wrap with quinoa, farro and fennel. We also grabbed the salad on special which had green beans, soft boiled eggs, and bacon. Everything was absolutely delicious and a perfect lunch for catching up.

If you’re in St. Louis I definitely recommend heading to Sardella to get a mocha latte as soon as you can. Assuming you can avoid stopping in Pastaria for a pizza or risotto balls…
