Mulled Wine

We are only days away from Christmas and I’ve still got a little Christmas shopping left to finish. My propensity for procrastination is the number 1 reason I have Amazon Prime. I’m totally ready for Christmas to be here. I’ve been prepping for weeks by watching The Holiday, Love Actually, and Elf on constant rotation. I still think the note card scene in Love Actually is one of the most romantic movie scenes regardless of the fact it’s borderline stalker.

Something else I’ve been prepping has been some new recipes for all the celebrations I have. I think one of my favorites has to be mulled wine. I’ve had friends tell me for ages how good it is, but I kind of ignored them. I mean, I love my wine opened. Really it only has to go that far, glass optional most nights.

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and made some mulled wine on a Sunday afternoon. Let me just preface with this, it is delicious and you can easily drink an entire bottle of wine by yourself in an afternoon this way.

It’s super easy to make mulled wine. You just need a few ingredients and it’s super quick. You can also make it in your slow cooker which is great if you want to make a lot, but if you know me or follow me on snapchat (tracycoble) then you know I loathe my slow cooker. I’ve unsuccessfully used it tens of times.

So if you are like me and not into the slow cooker, you can just as easily make this on the stove quickly.

You’re going to need:

1 bottle red wine

1 orange, sliced

1/4 cup brandy (optional)

1/4 cup honey or sugar

8 whole cloves

2 cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

Combine everything into a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for at least 15 minutes. Strain your wine and then serve warm. Seriously, that easy.

Your house will smell amazing when you make this. I wish the Internet had smell-o-vision to let you know how good this smells. I’m going to start making this instead of burning candles.

I picked these festive wine glasses up at Target which are perfect for serving some holiday cheer!
